By circumventing the DAC’s internal clock, shielding the unit from noise with an internal copper enclosure, and utilizing a new advanced multi-spring suspension system available on all G2.1 products, LEO GX.1 will dramatically enhance your listening experience.  

Traditional Clocking

Normally, phase-locked loop circuits (PLL) in a DAC are used to synchronize its internal working signal with the more accurate incoming signal from a reference clock. But they’re noisy. And even though the working signal can be nudged a bit to match up with the reference signal, its frequency — and the precision of the analog waveform that’s based on it — is ultimately limited by the DAC’s own clock circuit.

Direct-to-DAC Design

Thanks to its unique Jitter-Free Operation, when the VEGA G2.1 joins forces with the LEO GX.1 these devices accomplish something extraordinary. Instead of merely synchronizing with the LEO GX.1, the VEGA G2.1 actually uses the exceptionally high frequency incoming clock from the LEO GX.1 directly — as its own working signal. In other words the LEO GX.1 bypasses the internal VEGA G2.1 clock circuit entirely, and drives waveform creation directly with its signal. No more PLL, and no more limitations.  

A New Description of Performance

The LEO GX.1 clock is so precise that existing benchmarks aren’t detailed enough to accurately represent what it can do. Instead, we use Allan deviation to describe the resolution of the LEO GX.1, which is like looking at phase noise closely enough to detect shifts of +/-1Hz or even +/-0.1Hz. The Allan deviation of the LEO GX.1 Reference Master Clock comes in at 2E-12 (at 1 second), which is equal to a 10MHz rubidium atomic clock with phase noise of +/-1Hz at -110dBc/Hz, or an amazing 500 times less jitter than an 82fs Femto clock oscillator.  

Clock Structure

LEO GX.1 hardware starts with two temperature-controlled rubidium atomic reference clocks. Each is paired with an oscillator using stress compensated cut crystals, for thermal and mechanical resilience and low phase noise performance. The result is the LEO GX.1’s remarkably high signal frequencies: 90.316MHz for 44.1k-based audio signals, and 98.304MHz for 48k-based signals.

Optical Isolation

We’ve gone to great lengths to reduce interference and noise in the new LEO GX.1, including the use of optical isolation techniques that keep systems physically separated from each other. Control signals from the processing circuit are sent to the clock circuit via fiber optic cables instead of electrical pathways, so the source of LEO GX.1’s impeccable timing is never disturbed.

Unity Chassis II

The LEO GX.1 chassis has been designed as a double enclosure, where an outer case made from high-grade aluminum is supplemented with an inner layer of copper. A high-mass base and enhanced four-foot multi-spring suspension system complete the quiet, noise defeating performance of the LEO GX.1’s Unity Chassis II.

LEO GX.1 internal circuits are physically distributed to enhance overall balance and performance. And its specially designed foot spikes dampen and absorb vibrations so the operation of its internal clock always starts with a rock-steady foundation.  

Dual Purer-Power Linear Power Supplies

We’ve given the LEO GX.1 two of our ultra-quiet Purer-Power linear power supplies, galvanically isolating them from each other in the obsessive quest to reduce noise and create a pristine working environment. One Purer-Power supply feeds the LEO GX.1’s processing system, while the second powers the clock circuit. Interference between the areas is reduced to minimum, so there’s nothing to get in the way of LEO GX.1’s stellar performance.

Getting the Most From Your DAC

All DACs are built with a “sweet-spot,” a point where each DAC circuit excels at a resolution or format. DAC circuits built for DSD playback sound better when playing DSD and PCM DAC topologies perform better when fed PCM. By resampling to a format within the DAC’s “sweet spot,” the chip is allowed to play to its strengths, by lessening the processing requirement of the DAC.

As a separate device, SIRIUS G2.1 sets itself apart by focusing all of its energy on digital signal processing strength, using advanced resampling techniques to convert between any and all sampling rates. You’ll be able to further customize the sound of your digital sources when you choose from four distinct digital filters thanks our very own Flexible Filter Mode Technology. All of the above is done with uncommonly low distortion levels, potentially down to a staggering -170dB, which will also help keep the SIRIUS G2.1 virtually invisible in the signal path.  

The Power of Digital Processing

SIRIUS G2.1 is powered by the AURALiC Proteus G2 Co-Processing Platform; which harnesses a Xilinx XC7A200T FPGA chip at its heart, bolstered by 512 MB of DDR3 memory. This FPGA chip contains more than 200,000 logic cells and 740 DSP slices, all combining to provide unparalleled levels of data processing capability. SIRIUS G2.1’s computational power and efficiency are achieved in part because of the design decision to employ a dual-processing platform structure, which doubles capacity. While an AURALiC Tesla G1 handles hardware control, the Proteus G2 focuses its efforts on music data processing.

Smart-IR is just that - a smarter solution for controlling your SIRIUS G2.1. As with all AURALiC products, Smart-IR allows you to control certain functions of the SIRIUS G2.1 from any number of different remotes you already own. For example, you may program a remote to quickly switch between the four different digital filters by assigning a filter to individual buttons on that remote. Galvanic Isolation

SIRIUS G2.1 is equipped with two sets of high-speed galvanic isolators, between the processing platform and its audio circuits. Data can flow across the isolator, even while it physically separates and shields the audio circuits from interference. Flexible Filter Mode gives you a nuanced level of control over your audio output. Its various modes were developed using a combination of objective data models and subjective testing, with each mode offering a unique array of filters to match the sonic quality of the source. Triple Purer-Power

The Purer-Power linear power supply reduces DC current noise by as much as 90dB with its power purification module. Smart-IR Control

Smart-IR Remote Control lets your AURALiC device map its functionality onto any remote you’d like. Just let the device know which remote you prefer, and all of its operations. Changing of processing functions, volume, filter mode and more can be assigned to buttons just the way you like them.

CD Playback and Ripping

Still have some love for your old CDs? Not to worry; you can plug a generic USB CD drive into your ARIES G1.1 then choose to play a CD, rip a CD while playing, or just rip. As with AURALiC’s Lightning file streaming, our unique CD playback feature uses the same advanced, jitter-reducing Memory Playback technology. CD data is first read, and compared several times for accuracy into the system cache before playing. Smart-IR Control

Smart-IR Remote Control lets your AURALiC device map its functionality onto any remote you’d like. Just let the device know which remote you prefer, and all of its operations (play/pause, volume control, track select, etc.) can be assigned to buttons just the way you like them.

1GB Memory Cache

Open network connections and data fetching are prone to noise that can hurt the quality of your audio signal. The Tesla G2 hardware platform dedicates a whopping 1GB of RAM to the task of caching, lowering the frequency of open circuits and helping your music sound better.

Dual Purer-Power

The first of two Purer-Power supplies feeds the ARIES G1.1’s processing circuit, LCD display, and storage – whether internal or attached via USB. The second Purer-Power pathway is dedicated to sensitive audio components such as the Femto clock and USB audio output. Both power supplies are galvanically isolated from each other to ensure zero EMI interference between them.

ActiveUSB

The second generation of our ActiveUSB provides more than just asynchronous control over USB data for enhanced accuracy and precise re-clocking to reduce jitter. It also bypasses the USB power stream, using its own Purer-Power linear power supply instead. That means dirty USB power — and the EMI noise that comes along with it — is kept as far from the music as possible.  

Dual Purer-Power Linear Power Supplies

We’ve given the ARIES G1.1 two of our ultra-quiet Purer-Power linear power supplies, galvanically isolating them from each other in the obsessive quest to reduce noise for better sonic performance. Processing and display power is completely separated from sensitive audio components that operate on their own dedicated supply. Interference between the separate areas is reduced to zero, so all you’ll hear from the ARIES G1.1 is the music.

Master Clock DAC

The completely redesigned architecture of the VEGA G2.1 allows it to accomplish something amazing: it is the first DAC ever that operates independently of the source signal’s frequency.

Unity Chassis II

The VEGA G2.1 chassis has been designed as a double enclosure, where an outer case made from high-grade aluminum is supplemented with an inner layer of copper. A high-mass base and enhanced four-foot multi-spring suspension system complete the quiet, noise defeating performance of the VEGA G2.1’s Unity Chassis II.

Perfectly Balanced

VEGA G2.1 internal circuits are physically distributed to enhance overall balance. And with specially designed foot spikes that dampen and absorb vibrations, the VEGA G2.1 is always rock-steady, for ultra-smooth signal delivery.

Beautifully quiet

The VEGA G2.1 introduces sophisticated galvanic isolation and Unity Chassis II techniques that drastically reduce the potential for electro-magnetic interference, for an extraordinarily pure, clean sound. And the VEGA G2.1 is 10% quieter than the our VEGA G2.

Customized DAC Chip

There wasn’t a DAC chip on the market that could satisfy our requirements for sonic performance with the all-new VEGA G2.1. That’s why we used a modified Sabre DAC chip scheme, optimized for audio signal processing of resolutions up to DSD512. It’s just one more way we made sure everything inside the VEGA G2 lives up the premium standard of the entire G2 line.

Fully Passive Volume Control

Precise control, distortion free, noise free. The only way to get all three is to painstakingly construct a R-2R resistor ladder network — and that’s exactly what we’ve done for the VEGA G2.1.

Invisible

Eight coil-latch relays remain entirely passive when not in use, drawing no power and producing exactly zero EMI noise. Once set, the VEGA G2.1’s volume control system remains electronically invisible — one more detail that helps the VEGA G2.1 push the boundaries of sonic performance.

Display Brilliance

A 4.0-inch true color in-plane switching high-resolution display provides complete operational feedback: input channel, volume, sampling rate, playback status, and configuration settings.

Dual 72fs Femto Clock

With a dedicated, low-noise 3uV power supply to minimize phase noise and keep it as quiet as it is accurate, our 72 Femto Master Clock is amazingly precise for less jitter, and immaculate sound. Its 72 femtosecond cycles — that’s 72 quadrillionths of a second — set a new standard for signal timing. Temperature-regulated for consistent performance, this clock is always there to keep things rock-steady.

Galvanic Isolation

One of the VEGA G2.1’s high-speed galvanic isolators lies between the Tesla processing platform and its highly sensitive DAC circuitry. Data can flow across the isolator, even while it physically separates and shields the DAC from interference. The result is a whopping 80% reduction in noise levels compared to the original VEGA DAC.

Flexible Filter Mode

Flexible Filter Mode gives you a nuanced level of control over your audio output. Its various modes were developed using a combination of objective data models and subjective testing, with each mode offering a unique array of filters to match the sonic quality of the source. Whether it’s modes to tweak in-band ripple, out-band attenuation, ultrasonic filtering and more, you’ve always got the power to dial in the performance you want.

ORFEO Class-A Module

Inspired by classic analog circuit designs, ORFEO is capable of driving an array of loads to match the characteristics of a variety of amplifiers. Using small signal components with excellent linear qualities, thermally balanced and biased into Class-A, ORFEO has the power to drive loads as low as 600 ohms while keeping noise low — open loop distortion comes in at less than 0.001%.
